California Takes First Place at TYR Pacific Invitational

ROSEVILLE, CALIF. - Six different California swimmers won individual races and the Golden Bears took both relays on Saturday as Cal finished in first place at the TYR Pacific Invitational at the Roseville Aquatic Center. Cal's final score of 808.5 was 182 points better than second-place Oregon State, followed by University of the Pacific, Nevada and UC Davis.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Hannah Wilson touched the wall .08 ahead of fellow Bear Tara Thomas with a winning time of 51.82. Thomas got a first-place finish of her own in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming a 55.30 to pace four teammates who followed.

Lauren Rogers had a winning time of 56.85 to edge teammate Dana Vollmer by .26 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke, while Lauren Boyle took the 500-yard freestyle event (4:57.31) by 2.32 seconds over teammate Sara Sun.

Other individual winners were Emily Silver, with a 2:03.69 time in the 200-yard IM; and Alexandra Ellis, whose 2:20.62 time won the 200-yard breaststroke.

The Bears won both relay events of the day, coming first, second and third in the 200-yard freestyle, led by the 1:34.98 time of Silver, Amanda Larson, Amanda Sims and Boyle, who barely took the race by .04 seconds; and winning the 800-yard freestyle in a time of 7:28.36 thanks to the efforts of Thomas, Wilson, Sun and Madison Kennedy.

Cal is off until Friday, Nov. 2, when the Bears host Washington at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
