Bears at the Crew Classic: The No. 3 Golden Bears head south to San Diego for the 31st-annual San Diego Crew Classic held on Mission Bay April 3-4. Of the 12 crews competing for the Copley Cup, six are ranked in this year's USRowing preseason poll, with Cal and Washington leading the field. Last year Cal's varsity eight beat Washington by one second to win its fifth straight Copley Cup. Oregon State, Temple and UC Davis rounded out the top five.

The Competition: This year's competition features four of the Top 10 2003 IRA teams. Washington returns to San Diego as the No. 2-ranked team in the country. The Huskies return six members of the Pac-10 champion and IRA silver medal varsity eight boat.

No. 10 Northeastern returns three rowers from last year's varsity eight that placed seventh at the Eastern Sprints and fifth at IRA's. They will look to start their 2004 campaign with a win in San Diego.

Temple returns to the Crew Classic with intentions of improving on last year's fourth-place finish. The Owls' varsity eight boat consists of four seniors, three juniors and two sophomores.

Windermere Crew Classic Recap: At the second-annual Windermere Crew Classic, the Bears went undefeated to win the championship for the second time.
