Berkeley - Sophomore Samantha Young of the California women's diving team was selected as the Pac-10 Diver of the Month for January, the league office announced on Wednesday. This is the first monthly honor for Young and California's first-ever women's Diver of the Month accolade.
Young (Shoreline, WA) posted a first-place score of 263.78 on the 3-meter diving board and a second-place score of 250.27 on the 1-meter board against Arizona on Jan. 25. Against the Sun Devils of Arizona State on Jan. 26, Young nailed a first-place finish on the 1-meter diving board with a total score of 255.37.
Young also recorded first-place finishes in the one and three-meter diving competitions at USC on Feb. 2.
The Cal women's swimming and diving team, ranked eighth in the country, travels to No. 2-ranked Stanford on Feb. 16 in the final regular dual meet of the season.
