BERKELEY, Calif. -Raquel Kops-Jones was rewarded for her (43-15) 2002-03 performance and her ITA All-American title this fall, with the No. 1 ranking in the ITA's Northwest Region. This fall she was a perfect 5-0 and entered the ITA Indoor National Championship as the No. 1 overall seed, before having to retire due to injury. Kops-Jones, one-half of the 2003 NCAA Doubles Championship team, looks to bring home her first singles title this spring.

Sasha Podkolzina, opens up her first season with the Bears as the No. 4 player in the region, after a total of nine career matches. Despite many nagging injuries Podkolzina was able to post an impressive 6-3 mark, including a brave performance at the ITA Regional where she was the runner-up.

Jody Scheldt made the list as the 10th-rated player in the region. Scheldt recorded the most victories of any Cal player this fall going 10-2, winning the Bulldog Classic in Fresno and finishing as the runner-up at the Arizona State Invitational.

Catherine Lynch, Nicole Havlicek and Jieun Jacobs also earned early season recognition by the ITA. Lynch was an even 4-4 this fall and will begin the spring schedule as No. 17 in the region. Havlicek will be the 22nd-rated player in the area after posting a 6-3 autumn record. Jacobs rounds out the preseason ranked Bears at the No. 28 spot - competing only in the ASU Invitational this fall, going 3-1.

The Bears also have three pairs among the regional rankings in doubles. Kops-Jones and Podkolzina will start out as the No. 2 team in the area. Scheldt and Havlicek are No. 10, while Lynch and Jacobs are rated 14th.
