TEMPE, Ariz. - Sophomore Chloe Kloezeman scored two of No. 7 Cal's three runs as the Golden Bears turned in a 3-0 win at No. 6 Arizona State, Sunday. Senior Kristina Thorson picked up her career-high 30th win of the season, and the Bears improved to 42-11 overall and 10-8 in Pac-10 play. The Sun Devils fell to 43-12 and 7-9.
Kloezeman got the Bears on the board in the second inning with a solo home run. Freshman Carly Winger scored Cal's second run later in the second when senior Emily Friedman reached on a Sun Devil error.
In the third inning, pinch hitter Jeana Gevas singled up the middle, sending Kloezeman home. Kloezeman finished 2-for-4 on the day. Sophomore Julie Meyer was 2-for-2, and senior Lindsay James went 2-for-3.
Thorson (30-7) threw seven scoreless innings for the win, giving up four hits along the way. The two-time All-American struck out seven in the game for her 14th shutout of the season.
The Bears return to Berkeley next weekend for the final home stand of the regular season. Cal will face No. 1 UCLA Thursday at 3 p.m. The Bears then take on No. 16 Washington Friday and Saturday, with both games starting at 1 p.m.
