BERKELEY - Cal has signed junior college defensive ends Kyle Kragen (Danville, CA/Diablo Valley College/San Ramon Valley HS) and Sione Sina (Elk Grove, CA/College of San Mateo/Monterey Trail HS) to National Letters of Intent to join the Golden Bears' football program. Both will enroll at Cal in January of 2013.

Kragen exploded onto the scene during his two-year stay at Diablo Valley College (2011-12), where he earned first-team All-Mid-Empire League and team MVP honors on the defensive side of the ball as a 2012 sophomore, recording 14.5 sacks to lead the league and break the single-season school record previously held by USC standout Morgan Breslin. Kragen also totaled 65 tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his sophomore campaign while leading DVC to a season-ending East Bay Bowl victory. Kragen had 76 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and six fumble recoveries as a 2011 freshman at DVC after using his greyshirt season in 2010. His 83 tackles as a 2009 senior to earn honorable mention All-East Bay Athletic League honors highlighted his prep career.

"Kyle is an exciting and relentless player who plays with tremendous effort all of the time, uses his hands well and is a terrific pass rusher," Dykes said. "He's also a great fit for Cal academically and socially. It's a great situation."

Sina, who was given four stars by ESPN, had 28 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks last season after registering 38 stops, 8.5 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks as a 2011 freshman. His top prep season came as a junior when he recorded 51 tackles, 4.0 sacks, four passes defended and three fumble recoveries.

"Sione is a guy who is coming off a knee injury but we think that he will rehab really well because he's such a good athlete," Dykes said. "He's a versatile player who is capable of playing several positions and has a tremendous upside."

Kragen and Sina are the first announced signees of Cal's 2013 recruiting class. The midyear junior college transfer signing period for prospective student-athletes enrolling for 2013-14 that began Wednesday continues through January 15, 2013. The 2013 National Signing Day that kicks off the regular signing period is on February 6.

Dykes will begin his first season as Cal's head coach with three consecutive home games at the recently renovated Memorial Stadium when the Bears open their 2013 campaign against Northwestern (August 31), Portland State (September 7) and Ohio State (September 14). Cal will have a total of seven home games on its 2013 docket, also playing Pac-12 opponents Arizona, Oregon State, USC and Washington State at Memorial Stadium. The team will play five conference road games at Colorado, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and Washington.

The Pac-12 is expected to announce dates for all conference games in early January. All television broadcast information and kickoff times will also be announced at later dates.

Cal football season-ticket renewals are taking place during a new time frame for the upcoming 2013 season. Current season-ticket holders recently began a six-week window from Dec. 17 - Jan. 31 to renew before season tickets go on sale to the general public.

Fans who wish to become new season-ticket holders for 2013 are encouraged to place a $100 per-seat deposit now to guarantee a seat selection time at the upgrade event in early winter.

He possesses good size for the end position and looks to have a thick, powerful base ... He shows a good motor and moves well for his size with above average long speed ... Sina is a nice combination of size and ability and demonstrates the tools to productively contribute immediately and has starting potential based on need.
Scout.com/FoxSportsNEXT: Sione Sina is one of the top defensive linemen in the JC ranks in the country. This is the type of recruit you want to bring in, with this recruiting class - one who can help out on defense right away."
