The tenth-ranked California Golden Bears will face their last non-conference opponent of the regular season in a home tilt against the Santa Clara Broncos beginning at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Levine-Fricke Field.

Cal’s record fell to 32-8 overall and 7-5 in the Pac-12 following two extra-inning losses to then-No. 19/21 UCLA in last weekend’s conference series. The Bruins beat the Bears 6-5 on Thursday and 3-2 on Friday, both in nine innings, but the Bears stormed back on Saturday with a 5-1, 10-inning victory to prevent the sweep. Earlier in the week, Cal hosted Saint Mary’s at home for a 10-2 victory in six innings and the program’s 50th victory in the series. Despite the two losses, Cal fell from No. 9/8 to No. 10 in both polls.

Senior Lindsey Ziegenhirt matched her season-best 15 home runs on Friday against UCLA and now leads the team with a .343 batting average and 47 RBI – 21 more RBI than any other Golden Bear. Ziegenhirt is tied for 10th in the nation in home runs. Sophomore Cheyenne Cordes is batting .341 with a team-leading 29 runs scored.

Wednesday’s contest is the beginning of a four-game home stand for the Blue and Gold. The remaining three games will feature Oregon State on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

SCOUTING REPORT: SANTA CLARA (6-34, 3-9 Pacific Coast)

The Broncos are 2-8 in their last 10 meetings, including four losses to Saint Mary’s, who the Bears beat twice this season. Stephanie Fisher owns a team-leading .372 batting average with nine doubles, two triples, three home runs and 13 RBI. Second on the list is Casandra Padilla, who is six for seven in stolen bases plus three doubles and homers and eight RBI in 17 games. The Broncos allow opponents a .313 batting average opposite their .210 team batting average.

Carissa Theis (3-13) has pitched Santa Clara to three of its six wins in 17 games started with a 3.98 ERA, fanning 63 batters through 89.2 innings of work while allowing 29 extra-base hits, including six home runs. Second on the depth chart is Ciara Gonzales (1-9) with a 5.07 ERA in 59.1 innings and 10 starts.
