BERKELEY, Calif. - With football season fast approaching, the California football team kicks off the season with Contra Costa Times Fan Appreciation Day Saturday, Aug. 26, at Memorial Stadium. The day will include a chance for fans to interact with players and coaches from the Cal football team. The Golden Bears are ranked as high as No. 6 in the nation in preseason magazines and No. 12 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Festivities will run from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Fans should enter Memorial Stadium through the North tunnel. Parking will be available at campus parking lots for $7.00 for the entire day.
There will also be photo opportunities with the players. We ask all fans to respect the "one autograph per player or coach" guideline this year. The dance team and Oski, Cal's lovable mascot, will also be on site to greet fans and pose for pictures.
In addition, fans can take part in interactive football drills run by the team, including passing drills (where fans can catch passes in the end zone thrown by Cal's quarterbacks), field goal kicking drills with Cal's kicking squad, blocking drills led by Cal's offensive and defensive lines, and running drills in which children dress in full-size uniforms and run relays.
The official 2006 gameday shirt, media guides, Cal merchandise and season tickets will be for sale. Near the conclusion of the event, free appetizers and soft drinks will be served, compliments of Compadres, Baja Fresh and Coca-Cola.
