The California Golden Bear women's basketball team has announced the date for its third annual Shooting Shirt Auction. This year, the auction will take place on Saturday, Feb. 26 during the game against Oregon State. Bidding on the shirts will run through the end of halftime.
The players have designed special shooting shirts that they will wear during the pregame warm-ups of the game, which tips at 7:30 p.m. After warm-ups, the shirts will be put on display. The silent auction will begin when doors open and will last through the end of halftime.
This year, the money raised from the auction will benefit New Day for Children, an organization that partners with law enforcement, social services, educational institutions, churches, corporations and other community leaders to provide programs and facilities to give hope and security to girls from the ages of 10 - 18 caught in the desperation of sexual exploitation for commercial purposes.
"Our team was deeply affected by the stories of these young women and has become passionate about rallying around this cause." head coach Joanne Boyle said. "To know this is happening in our backyard moved us to take action. We would love to have our fans join us in making an impact by helping us raise money for New Day for Children. The shooting shirt auction is a fun way to be able to support an organization that is doing such important work."
Also being auctioned off are a team autographed jersey and a team autographed basketball. The proceeds from these two items will benefit Upward Roots, the charity that is also the beneficiary of this season's We Assist, You Assist campaign.
Opening bids for the t-shirts will be $100 with $10 bid increments.
Please have Check or Cash ready for winning bids. NO CREDIT CARDS will be accepted.
If you would like to bid on an item but will not be attending the game on Saturday, Jessica Dolan will be accepting silent pre-bids by phone through 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25. To make a bid or to make a donation to this worthy cause, please contact Jessica at 510-642-9448 or email her at JDolan@berkeley.edu.
