Head Coach Mike Montgomery
On Washington State
They have a different coach and a different look. They're a little bit more open offensively. Klay Thompson is playing great, certainly one of the better players in the conference. He can really score. They have a lot of similar guys, they can substitute and rotate, although, I think Reggie Moore at the point has been excellent for them as a penetrator. They're a very young team, but they've been very productive so far. Ken (Bone) is a good coach, he's been around a long time.
On Klay Thompson
He can really shoot the ball. He can shoot off the dribble. He finishes, but that's not his thing, really. He's more of a jump shooter. He can get to the basket. He's got some length to him, and he's obviously getting stronger as he progresses through his career. He's leading the league in scoring so he's obviously the real deal.
On the WSU defense
They're young, and usually younger teams are not as good defensively. They don't have great size, but they're sound. They're going to keep you out of the paint as best they can and try to minimize. Ken's done a good job. The kids have responded to him. He's given them some freedom offensively, and they've got a lot of shooters.
On Jerome and his passing the ball more
He's trying. It's something he needs to do. We have other good players, and they're obviously keying on him and Patrick (Christopher). In order for us to be a good team, Jerome has to get others involved. We have to get our post guys involved. There aren't one or two guys who can it all themselves. It's been difficult for Pat because they're loading up on him. They know these guys can shoot the ball. Jerome's done a better job and we continue to stay after him about it. He's a guy who feels like he can do a lot of things on his own, but the better he makes others, the better we're going to be.
On the Pac-10
I don't know that everybody could finish on top, but there are a lot of similarities between teams. There is no dominant team or dominant players with all those one-and-done, first-round guys. Everybody has a lot of solid good players. I told our guys that the team that can sustain their energy level and stay competitive night after night is probably going to be the team that wins the league. Thus far, nobody has been able to do that. There's been some upsets.
