California Head Coach Jeff Tedford

General Comments

"All in all, I thought we played hard. I thought Aaron (Rodgers) had a chance to throw the ball today, which he didn't have last week. We caught the ball fairly well. The guys played hard. I was happy to see them play hard."

"I thought we needed to get off the field a little more on defense in the first half. They were able to sustain some drives. We only had the ball one time in the first quarter- one series and two plays- so we need to get of the field a little bit better. And then we turned the ball over twice today, which we can't afford to do."

"Generally, we need to improve. We need to get off the field a little bit more and not turn the football over. Our guys are playing hard. The first two games have been penalty free for the most part. We're making progress, but we need to continue to get better."

On the Crowd
"It was great to see. I'm very happy about that. I'm very proud of our Marketing Department, which has done a nice job of promoting the team and putting packages together to get the stadium full. It really makes a difference when we go on the field and it's a full stadium; our players notice it and I think they are very happy about that."

"We're very appreciative of the support. The twelfth man- the fans- can make this a very difficult place to play."

"When our young guys saw yesterday that people were already lining up and setting things up, they were pretty big eyed. The walk-through today was awesome. We had to laugh a little because during the first one we had, when we played Baylor, there was one lone guy sitting out there in his chair and he clapped as we walked by. Today it was a little different. I'm happy that the support is there. Our guys really appreciate it. I think we'll play well because of it."

On JJ Arrington
"JJ is very explosive. He did a nice job. The offensive line opened some nice holes for him. But JJ ran very hard. He has great vision. He is a solid player for us."

New Mexico State Head Coach Tony Samuels

General comments

"We fought a lot harder, competed a lot better (than last week against Arkansas). We were more aggressive. But that was a good football team we just played. Their quarterback's really good. The running back (J.J.) Arrington's good. Their defense is really solid. We were able to do some things, it's just Cal's a good football team." "We have to quit giving up big plays. We gave up at least four big plays. We have to make big plays and win the turnover ratio. You have to do both."

Comparing Cal to Arkansas, New Mexico State's first week opponent
"They're two good football teams. I'd sure like to play some of these teams at home some time. It's hard to compare - they're two different teams. Cal has great balance on offense. Their quarterback obviously gets the ball to his receivers. Arrington's a great running back."

On Cal quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Reggie Robertson
"That kid (Rodgers) is not bad. Actually, they have two good quarterbacks. Watching the film on (Robertson), he looked pretty good, too."

On Cal receiver Chase Lyman
"They threw a couple of big ones on his side of the line. We had some guys over there, but he's a big kid. He made some plays."
