BERKELEY - The No. 23 California men's soccer team defeated San Diego State, 1-0, Friday afternoon at Edwards Stadium. The Golden Bears have posted back-to-back 1-0 victories and are now tied with the Aztecs for second place in the Pac-10. Cal improved to 9-4-1, 4-2 on the season, while SDSU fell to 8-5-2, 4-3.

Cal got on the board in the 15th minute. Freshman Andrew Wiedeman recorded his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Wiedeman picked off a cross pass in front of the net and booted a shot past keeper Jorge Rosales. The score increased Wiedeman's season point total to 14. Wiedeman ended the contest with three shots and two shots on goal.

Cal was outshot 11-10, but held SDSU to just four shots on goal, all of which were stopped by sophomore keeper Stefan Frei. Frei earned his seventh shutout of the season on Friday, as well.

Senior Javier Ayala-Hil also had an impressive game, tallying three shots and one shot on goal. Junior Pat Marion recorded two shots on goal and senior Andrew Jacobson tallied a shot on goal of his own.

The Bears have their final regular-season home game on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 2:30 p.m. against UCLA at Edwards Stadium.
