LOS ANGELES - Nicole Havlicek and Catherine Lynch were able to fuse their talents together to beat a tough Texas Tech pair of Kendall Brooks and Irina Tereschenko, 8-6, at the ITA All-American Championships. The two now move on to the round of 16 to face #2 seed Kelly Schmandt and Aleke Tsoubanoa of Vanderbilt.
Havlicek and Lynch were not as lucky in singles competition, however.
Lynch lost her first round matchup (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) to North Carolina's Aiela Mojzis. Havlicek had a little better time of it in the first round, defeating Jemina Hayward of Boise State in straight sets, (6-4, 6-4).
In the second round Havlicek was hoping to avenge an early season loss, but things did not quite work out according to plan. Havlicek dropped two straight sets to Anna Erickson of Sacramento State, (6-0, 6-4). The two faced each other at the Bulldog Classic, in Fresno, with Erickson pulling out the victory in that matchup.
Cal will continue play tomorrow as the main draw in women's competition gets underway. Raquel Kops-Jones and Jody Schedt will be in action, as well as the team of Havlicek and Lynch in doubles competition.
