DAYTON, Ohio - California men's basketball senior Jorge Gutierrez and sophomore Allen Crabbe received selections to the 2011-12 NABC District 20 Team on Wednesday, March 14. The National Association of Basketball Coaches recognized the nation's best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC. The 240 selections, from 24 districts, are eligible for the Coaches' Division I All-America teams, to be announced on Tuesday, March 20.

Gutierrez, who received first-team honors, was named the Pac-12 Conference's Player of the Year and is the only player in league history to also be named the Defensive Player of the Year. This year, he received his second USBWA All-District IX selection and has been honored by the Pac-12 with two first-team all-conference nods. He has also twice been selected to the Pac-12's all-academic second team for his accomplishments in the class room.

This season, Gutierrez ranks second on the team in scoring (13.1 ppg) and is third in rebounds (5.3 rpg). He has been Cal's defensive catalyst as a leader on the defensive boards and boasts a team-high 39 steals. He became just the second player in program history to record 1,000 points, 400 assists, and 400 rebounds in his career. The other is Hall of Fame guard Kevin Johnson. At Cal, he ranks 20th in career points (1,221), fifth in assists (418), fifth in steals (148), and fourth in games played (128).

Crabbe, who received second-team honors, is the Pac-12's fifth-leading scorer and earned All-Pac-12 first team honors to follow his Pac-10 Freshman of the Year award from 2011. He was a pre-season Wooden Award Watch List mention and climbed into top-10 lists at Cal for three-pointers made (143, in ninth place) and three-point field goals attempted (354, in 10th place).

He leads the conference in three-pointers made per game (2.5) and is among the top shooters in the league with a .407 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. He has logged double-double games three times, this season, and has reached double figures in scoring in 27 games. His 81 three-pointers, this season, is the third-best single-season mark at Cal behind only two other years set by Jerome Randle.

The Bears are in Dayton, Ohio, to face South Florida (20-13) in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Cal will take the court against the Bulls on Wednesday, March 14, at the University of Dayton Arena for an approximate 9 p.m. ET tip. The winner will move into the round of 64 as the 12th seed and face fifth-seeded Temple in Nashville on Friday, March 16.
