Post Game Quotes: Nov. 28 vs Portland State
Nov. 28, 2010
Head Coach Joanne Boyle
"I am just really happy with the weekend. I thought there were a lot of good things that we have done offensively. Our stat lines in general with rebounding. I was really happy with our defense and our offense. Playing a short bench and short numbers, for them to come out and play the way they did and not fold to the number of minutes they were playing, I thought it was a really good weekend."
On how this game against a system team was different than New Mexico, another system team
"Everything was totally different. Our energy level, body language, how we approached the game, confidence, and just a passion for the game. We just chucked one down there and hopefully that was a lesson learned for us. [Cal} came out with a sense of pride about their tournament and what they were trying to do and made a statement. We went out to show people we can play. They did a great job both games of buying into the game plan. That was to take away the three from them and their transition since they are such a transition team. We can be a really good team if we stay together and compete like that. But we didn't compete against New Mexico."
On the play of Layshia Clarendon
"Layshia had a great game and a great tournament. She really controlled a lot of things for us. I think the difficult thing for her is she was scoring and running great things for the team and getting good looks for people. She had some great assists in both games. She rebounded the ball well. Her stat line was great. I thought she brought an incredible point guard mentality to the weekend and that helped other people get great looks."
On the play of Mikayla Lyles
"I think she did some really good things. She has really bought into having a role on this team and making a differnce with little things. She doesn't care if she scores or doesn't score. It's just having someone on the floor who can see what is going on and who needs to get touches. If she's got an open three, she has the green light. And she plays good defense. That's what we need and that is why she is playing."
On the play of Lindsay Sherbert
"She's really consistent on the boards for us."
On looking ahead to Texas A&M
"I'm just excited. I think it sets us up for a good week of practice by coming off a great weekend. Everybody played well. We played good as a team. It was a great game here last year. I want to play those games to get the team into that kind of environment. I am happy to go into it after a really good weekend."
Sophomore Forward DeNesha Stallworth
"I am working on trying to give my all and 100 percent every game, and then that transfers to my team. We do a lot better [when I am focused]. It is something I am working on."
On whether it was a focus to get the ball to her down low
"No, it wasn't really a focus. We were just focused on playing team basketball, running our stuff, and looking for the open looks."
On the play of Lindsay Sherbert
"I feel that she didn't rush like she did in the past and it really helped her. She made good reads backdooring and hitting the open three. And her rebounding.
