BERKELEY - California junior forward Andrew Wiedeman was selected to the Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week for his strong play in the Golden Bears' two wins in the recently completed Cal Legacy Classic at Edwards Stadium. The San Ramon, Calif., product and 2008 All-American scored nine points from three goals and three assists in wins over George Washington and Cal Poly, as the Bears ran their record to 3-1-0.
Wiedeman, a member of the Watch List for the Hermann Trophy and a preseason All-American this year, scored two goals and assisted on another in Cal's 4-0 rout of GW on Sept. 11. He posted one goal and two assists in a 3-1 win over Cal Poly on Sept. 13. Wiedeman leads the Bears in points (11), goals (4) and game-winning goals (2). He ranks second on the team with three assists.
In addition, Top Drawer Soccer/TopDrawerSoccer.com currently ranks Cal No. 4 in its "Tournament 48" list, which tries to project the 48 teams that will earn berths in the NCAA College Cup field.
The Bears return to action in the Bay Area Classic with a game at San Francisco at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, and a game at Edwards Stadium against Santa Clara at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20.
