TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 6 California is in fourth place with a plus-23 591 Tuesday after the second round of the Wildcat Invitational at Arizona National Golf Course. With sophomore Sophia Sheridan leading the way with a 71, the Golden Bears carded a 302 today.

No. 11 Vanderbilt is in first at 579 following a second round of 289, while No. 2 UCLA is second at 582 and No. 10 Ohio State is third at 584.

Sheridan is in a three-way tie for first at minus-two 140 with Vanderbilt's May Wood and Ohio State's Allison Hanna. The 140 equals the Cal school record for 36 holes, set previously by Sarah Huarte and Vikki Laing in the spring of 2003.

"Sophia is in a good spot," said Cal head coach Nancy McDaniel. "It's great to have a player not only in position to win a tournament but also in a great frame of mind. I know that she'll legitimately compete for the title tomorrow."

Cal senior Sarah Huarte began the day in a tie for first but dropped to a tie for 6th after carding a 78, for a two-day total of 146. Senior Claire Dury shot a 77 and is in 23rd at 152, and sophomore Sofie Andersson is tied for 24th at 153 following a score of 76. The Bears' other senior, Anna Temple, is tied for 43rd after posting a 79 Tuesday.

The final round of the 14-team tournament tees off Wednesday at 7 a.m. PT with a shotgun start.
