No. 6/7 Cal Wins 15th Straight Game, Downs Miami (Ohio)

BERKELEY - The No. 6 California softball team scored nine runs on eight hits in a 9-1 victory over Miami (Ohio) at Levine-Fricke Field, Tuesday. Senior Haley Woods led the Golden Bears (20-2), finishing 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Cal has won 15 games in a row.

Senior Kristina Thorson improved to 13-2 on the season, striking out 10 of the 16 batters she faced. Thorson gave up just two hits and one run in four innings. Freshman Lauren Frankiewicz pitched the fifth inning, striking out three and walking one.

The Bears scored two runs in each of the first and third innings, four in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Senior Lindsay James went 1-for-2 on the day, scoring three runs and tallying one RBI. James led off the first inning with a single. She later scored after Woods reached base on a Miami error. Woods was driven home on a sacrifice fly from senior Emily Friedman.

James scored again in the third inning on an RBI double from Woods. Friedman again drove Woods home, on an RBI single.

The fourth inning saw four runs on three hits for the Bears. Woods drove in two runs on a double, scoring freshman Morgan Siegel and James.

Cal travels to the Capital Classic Friday-Sunday in Sacramento. The Bears are scheduled to take on Colorado State, Columbia, Illinois, Iowa and Long Island in the three-day tournament
