Columbus, OH - Junior Madison Kennedy broke a school and McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion pool record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.87 in the opening day preliminaries of the NCAA Women's Swimming Championships hosted by Ohio State on Thursday morning.

Kennedy, a transfer from Rutgers eclipsed the previous 50 free mark held by senior Emily Silver (21.99) set last season at the NCAA Championships in Minnesota.

Another school record was set in the preliminaries of the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the foursome of Kennedy, Hannah Wilson, Silver and Dana Vollmer posted a mark of 1:28.05, eclipsing the previous record of 1:28.70 set at the Pac-10 Championships earlier in March.

Championship Finals begin later tonight at 7:00 p.m. (EST)
