MIAMI GARDENS, FL - Former Cal football player Scott Fujita started at linebacker and contributed four tackles for winning New Orleans in Super Bowl XLIV on Sunday. The Saints captured the first Super Bowl victory in franchise history with a 31-17 triumph over Indianapolis at Sun Life Stadium.

Fujita was the first Cal player to be a member of a winning Super Bowl team since Matt Giordano and Tarik Glenn played for an Indianapolis Colts' squad that defeated the Chicago Bears, 29-17, in Super Bowl XLI played on Feb. 4, 2007, at Dolphins Stadium also in Miami Gardens, Fla. Fujita's start was the first Super Bowl start by a Cal player since Glenn started at left tackle in Super Bowl XLI.

Prior to Fujita's appearance on Sunday, the most recent former Cal player to play in a Super Bowl was J.J. Arrington for an Arizona Cardinals squad that lost by a score of 27-23 to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Feb. 1, 2009, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

Fujita spent four seasons at Cal from 1998-2001. He was a fifth-round draft pick of Kansas City in the 2002 NFL Draft. After spending three seasons with the Chiefs (2003-05), he played one campaign for Dallas in 2005 and has been with New Orleans since 2006.
