BERKELEY - After being down 40-29 with 17:14 left in the second half, California went on a 10-0 run over the next 2:25 to come within one, 40-39. Then, after being down 12 with 2:19 left to play, the Bears went on a 17-6 run to pull within a point with three seconds remaining.
Having only scored six points in his previous five appearances, Jeff Powers has now scored 37 points over the last three games.
The Golden Bears tied their season low with only seven turnovers. They did it previously against Arizona State on Feb. 3, 2011 (8).
With 11 points tonight, Jorge Gutierrez has now reached double digits in his last seven games.
Harper Kamp had 16 points and 10 rebounds, good for his third double-double of the season.
Markhuri-Sanders Frison achieved his team-leading sixth double-double of the season with 23 points (10-15, 66.6%) and 11 rebounds. His 23 points were a new career high. His previous high of 18 came against Oregon on Jan. 29, 2011. Sanders-Frison also went 2-2 from behind the arc. The baskets were his first career three-pointers.
Cal had five players score in double figures for the third time this season, and the second time all five starters achieved this feat.
After being outrebounded, 22-17, at half, the Bears pulled down 22 boards in the second half, finishing ahead in the battle on the boards, 39-33.
