Tailback Chris Markey and kicker Justin Medlock of UCLA and linebacker Wendell Hunter of California have been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week.

Markey and Medlock played key roles in UCLA's 34-26 upset road win at Oregon that propelled the Bruins into a bowl berth. Markey, a freshman from Luling, La., making his first start in place of injured star Maurice Drew, was UCLA's leading rusher and receiver in the victory. Markey rushed 23 times for 131 yards (5.7) and added five receptions for 84 yards (16.8) to pace the Bruins' offense. Including a kickoff return, Markey put up a total of 238 all-purpose yards. The Bruin offense had 227 yards rushing and 442 yards total offense and converted 10-of-18 third-down conversion attempts.

Medlock, a sophomore from Fremont, Calif., hit on two-of-three field goal attempts from 50 yards or longer. He connected on second-half three-pointers from 52 and 50 yards. His miss also was a 50-yard attempt.

Hunter, a senior from Carson, Calif., was the defensive leader in California's 42-12 road win at Washington. Hunter had a game-high 10 tackles, six solo, and intercepted two passes, returning them for 43 yards. The California defense limited Washington to 84 yards rushing and forced four turnovers, including three interceptions.

It was the second player of the week honors this year for both Hunter and Medlock.

Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were quarterback Andrew Walter of Arizona State, running backs Marshawn Lynch of California, LenDale White of USC and Jerome Harrison of Washington State and flanker Anthony Wheat-Brown of Oregon State. Also nominated on defense were cornerback Trey Brown of UCLA, linebacker Lofa Tatupu of USC and ends Kyle Caldwell of Arizona State and Bill Swancutt of Oregon State. Punter Sam Paulescu of Oregon State and return man Michael Bumpus of Washington State were nominated for special teams play.
