EUGENE, Ore. - Freshman Morgan Siegel and senior Haley Woods each finished 2-for-3 as the No. 7/8 California softball team picked up a 4-0 win at Oregon in the second of two games, Saturday. The first game was a continuation of the April 7 contest in Berkeley that had been called due to rain in the top of the third inning. Oregon ultimately turned in a 5-1 win in that game. The Golden Bears are now 39-10 overall and 7-7 in Pac-10 play. Oregon is 21-19 and 3-9.
In the second game Saturday, Cal's four runs in the top of the first inning were all the Bears would need in the 4-0 win. Siegel led off the game with a single and later scored on an RBI single from senior Emily Friedman. Sophomore Katie Vickers drove Friedman home on an RBI single, and sophomore Chloe Kloezeman sent senior Haley Woods and Vickers home on a double to right center.
Senior Kristina Thorson (272-7) tossed a two-hitter in the Bears' shut-out win.
In the continuation of the April 7 game, Oregon outscored Cal 3-1 for a final win of 5-1. The Bears scored their only run in the third inning when sophomore Julie Meyer came home on a passed ball. Meyer doubled to left field to reach base. The Ducks scored three runs in the fifth for the final winning margin.
Freshman Lauren Frankiewicz (12-2) took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits and striking out four.
The Bears tallied just three hits in the game, with senior Lindsay James, Meyer and freshman Carly Winger doing the honors. James' hit came in the first inning when the game was originally started. Meyer and Winger each had a hit Saturday.
Cal takes on the Ducks again Sunday at 1 p.m.
