Cal-Utah Opener on Live TV

Berkeley - The Cal season opener vs. the University of Utah on September 9, 2000 in Cal's Memorial Stadium will be televised live by Fox Sports Bay Area beginning at 3:00 p.m. It is one of five Golden Bear games that have already have been selected for TV this coming season.

The season opener will be telecast throughout Northern California, with the actual kickoff set for 3:17 p.m. The game will also be picked up for telecast in Utah's home area on KJZZ-TV in Salt Lake City. The Cal-Utah game was originally scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff, but was moved to accommodate television.

Cal's next two games will be nationally televised as the Sept. 16 game at Illinois will be televised by ESPN, beginning at 9:00 a.m. PDT (11:00 a.m. CDT) and the Sept. 23 game at Fresno State will be televised by Fox Sports Net, beginning at 7:15 p.m. PDT.

Cal's game at Washington on October 21 will be televised beginning at 3:30 p.m. on the Fox Syndication network (Channel 36 in the Bay Area).

The Cal game at Arizona State on October 7 will be televised by either ABC-TV at 12:30 p.m. PDT or at 3:30 p.m. by Fox Sports Net. Which network televises that game will not be decided until 10 days before the date of the game.

There are two other strong possibilities for live telecasts as Cal visits USC on October 28 and Cal hosts UCLA on October 14. Again telecast decisions on those game will come approximately 10 days before the date of the actual game.

No decision has been made regarding the other games as of this time, including the Big Game between Cal and Stanford on November 18.

In other television news, Cal's weekly sports magazine show, which traditionally has been shown at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoons will have a new time slot this fall. The half-hour show will be seen each Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Glenn Kuiper will continue to host the show with interview segments with Tom Holmoe and player interviews.
