BERKELEY - Cal and Texas have scheduled a home-and-home football series for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, the schools announced Friday. The Golden Bears will travel to Austin for a game on Sept. 12, 2015, before Texas visits Berkeley the following season for a contest to be played on Sept. 10, 2016.
Texas holds the all-time lead in the series, 4-0. The teams have not played since 1970 when the Golden Bears and Longhorns met in Austin. The first meeting in the series was also held at Texas in 1959, while UT and Cal have also played twice in Berkeley in 1961 and 1969.
"We're pleased to be able to continue scheduling quality opponents such as the University of Texas," said Cal Director of Athletics Sandy Barbour. "We want to give our football program every opportunity to compete and succeed at the national level, as well as bring outstanding college football games to Memorial Stadium for our fans. Playing this home-and-home series against Texas will accomplish both goals."
Among Cal's other non-conference games scheduled over the next several years are home-and-home series with Colorado, Ohio State and Northwestern.
The Bears will host Colorado next Sept. 11 before visiting Boulder on Sept. 10, 2011. Cal travels to Ohio State for a contest on Sept. 15, 2012, while the Buckeyes visit Berkeley on Sept. 14, 2013. The Bears are also scheduled to host Northwestern at Memorial Stadium to open the 2013 season on Aug. 31, before starting the following campaign in Evanston against the Wildcats on Aug. 30, 2014.
