BERKELEY - California senior guard Courtney Johnson will receive a proclamation at tonight's Berkeley City Council meeting to honor her outstanding athletic accomplishments over the last four years as a member of the Golden Bear basketball team.
Johnson's proclamation is the first item on the agenda at tonight's 7 p.m. meeting at the Old City Hall building at 2134 Martin Luther King Way. The three-year captain is expected to attend tonight's meeting with her mother, Gwen. Cal basketball fans can attend the meeting or see Johnson being honored live on channel 25 on the Berkeley cable system.
A product of Antioch, Johnson earned first team All-Pac-10 honors after putting together a stellar all-around senior year. She led the Pac-10 in steals (3.18 spg) and ranked among the league's statistical leaders in scoring (6th, 15.2 ppg), assists (9th, 3.54 apg) and assist-turnover ratio (9th, 0.97). Her career-best 15.2 ppg average is the best by a Cal player since Patrycja Czepiec averaged 15.9 ppg in 1996-97.
