BERKELEY, Calif. - The Cal women's tennis team came into Sunday's match-up against Stanford feeling good, after blanking Oregon, 7-0, the day before. But in the end, the Bears could not muster enough to beat the No. 1 ranked Cardinal, falling 6-1. The Bears' record moves to 8-3 on the year.
No. 2 Raquel Kops-Jones was the lone singles winner for the Bears, beating Amber Liu, 6-3, 6-2. Jieun Jacobs also played well despite falling to Alice Barnes, 7-5, 4-6, (10-6), in a very entertaining match.
Catherine Lynch's 10-match winning streak was snapped by Erin Burdette, on court No. 3. Lynch's overall record is now 16-7. The Lynch loss coupled with the Kops-Jones win moves the two into a tied for the team lead in victories with 16 apiece.
The other victory for the Bears, came in doubles play, where Lynch and Monica Wiesener were able to defeat Emilia Andersen and Anne Yelsey, 8-6.
