Berkeley - The Cal Athletic ticket office announced Friday afternoon that just over 60,000 tickets have been sold for the Cal-Nebraska game on Saturday. A large walk-up crowd is also expected.
The Cal Athletic Ticket office at 2223 Fulton St. will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Cal Atheltic Ticket Office at 2223 Fulton Styreet (near the corner of Bancroft Avenue). Tickets will be available at Memorial Stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m.
General Admission tickets are sold out.
Cal's captains for the Nebraska game will be A.J. Kunkle, John Romero, Sekou Sanika and Todd Trowbridge.
Cal has not defeated a Top 5 team since the Bears upended USC, 28-14, on Nov. 1, 1975; interesting enough, SC was the defending national champs from the previous year and had an 18-game unbeaten streak that was broken by the Bears (Nebraska has a 16-game winning streak on the line today)
One of the architects of that victory, Chuck Muncie (18 carries for 143 yards and 5 receptions for 62 yards), is in attendance this afternoon, as well as former Cal and Nebraska star Vince Ferragamo and Cal receiver Steve Rivera who caught 9 passes for 131 yards in that...
One of the interesting match-ups today could see Cal DB Drae Harris covering childhood pal Kenny Cheatham. Both grew up in South Phoenix and played Pop Warner and high school ball together. Cheatham will have a size advantage at 6-4 compared to Harris' 5-10 stature
Former Cal All-America linebacker Les Richter will be honored prior to the game with the Glenn T. Seaborg award, given annually by the Sons of California (Cal football lettermen) for service to the University and accomplishments after graduation
Cal offensive line coach Monte Clark will move up to the press box for the first time in his long career so he can more carefully monitor schemes, blocking patterns, breakdowns and adjustments
Cal defensive coordinator Lyle Setencich was a key member of the Arizona State defensive staff that shutout Nebraska 19-0 in 1996, but also was a part of the Sun Devil staff that saw the Cornhuskers run up 77 points in '95 during a trip to Lincoln.
