LOS ANGELES (AP) - Eliza Pierre scored 12 points while Talia Caldwell and Lindsay Sherbert had 10 apiece for Cal (14-11, 6-8) which lost No. 9 UCLA 63-48 on Friday night.

Cal shot just 31.4 percent for the game. The Bears went 3 of 16 on 3-pointers, missing all five attempts in the opening half.

Rebekah Gardner scored 16 points, Darxia Morris added 10 for UCLA.

Jasmine Dixon had eight points and nine rebounds for the Bruins (22-2, 12-1 Pac-10).

UCLA is unbeaten in its last 13 conference games at Pauley Pavilion.

The Bruins carried an eight-point lead out of halftime before more than doubling the advantage as the Bears succumbed to UCLA's defensive pressure.

Cal started the second half strong, with DeNesha Stallworth grabbing a pair of steals in the first two minutes of the half, but the Bruins outscored the Bears 21-9 in the early portion of the second half to put the game out of reach.

Morris nailed a 3-pointer, Markel Walker made a layup following a steal and Gardner added a 3 for a quick spurt that resulted in a 50-30 lead with 11:45 left.

That allowed UCLA to empty its bench in the final few minutes with the game well in hand.

The Bruins were sloppy early as they turned the ball over on four of their first five possessions. The Bears weren't able to capitalize, leading just 2-0 before trailing the rest of the way.

The Bruins jumped out to a 17-7 lead midway through the first period. Cal made a serious run, pulling within two points, 19-17, on a putback by Talia Caldwell with just over seven minutes left in the first half. UCLA put an end to the Cal run, scoring four straight points. They managed to build the lead back up to eight with Christina Nzekwe's jumper to beat the buzzer put the Bruins up 29-21 at halftime.

Eliza Pierre became the eighth different Cal player to lead the team in scoring this season. Pierre had 12 points, seven steals, and four rebounds. Lindsya Sherbert had 10 points with three rebounds. Talia Caldwell scored 10 points with five rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

With the loss, the Bears fall to 14-11 and 6-8 in the Pac-10. The Bruins improve to 22-2 and 12-1 in the Pac-10.

Cal, who have lost four games in a row, will try to stop the skid on Sunday, Feb. 20 when they take on the USC Trojans at the Galen Center in downtown Los Angeles. The game tips at 2:00 p.m.
