Sophomore forward/center Devanei Hampton becomes the second women's basketball player to earn Muscle Milk California Student-Atlete of the Week honors after averaging 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two Golden Bear victories. The Bears' wins over Washington State and Washington marked the first-ever road sweep of the two schools and the first time since the 2000-01 season that Cal swept a Pac-10 road trip.
On the week, Hampton shot 69.6 percent from the field (16-of-23) and 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the foul line, while hitting her first three-pointer of the season against the Huskies. In the nationally-televised 72-49 win over Washington, the Oakland product tallied game highs of 25 points and eight rebounds, while shooting 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the floor. In Thursday's 55-48 defensive battle with Washington State, Hampton posted her second double-double of the season, registering 14 points and a season-high 13 rebounds.
In addition to being the Muscle Milk Athlete of the Week, Hampton was also named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
California (13-4 overall, 4-3 Pac-10) is tied for its third-best start in school history through 17 games and is off to its best start since the 1992-93 team opened at 13-4.
