Berkeley - The 12th-ranked Cal women's tennis team (2-0) continued its dominance over non-Pac 10 schools today, winning their 25th consecutive non-conference home match today at Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley over No. 75 Nevada, 6-1 (2-3).
Two Cal women made their season debut on the courts, Jieun Jacobs and Catherine Lynch, and both began their season with wins. Lynch played on the fourth court against Ana Bittler, and won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Jacobs, who held down the second court, dropped Vania Apodaca in a pair of 6-1 sets.
Sophomore Jody Scheldt continued to wow Cal fans with her performances. Scheldt, a recent transfer from Iowa, joined Raquel Kops-Jones on the top doubles court to open up the afternoon's proceedings, and the pair dropped Nevada's top ranked duo of Tjasa Jezernick and Biljana Trpeska by an 8-4 score. Scheldt then moved to the sixth court for singles, and easily defeated Cherie Pettersson 6-2, 6-3. Scheldt now holds a 5-1 record in singles play since her Cal debut last month at the Pac-10 Indoors.
The Bears hit the road for their first road trip of the season, a southern swing to take on Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine next week in Los Angeles. Cal returns home the following weekend to take on San Diego State on Friday, February 22, and then will open their Pac-10 season against rival Stanford on Saturday the 23rd.
