IRVINE, Calif. - California head coach Teri McKeever will lead several current and former Golden Bears to swim in the 2010 ConocoPhillips National Championships from Tuesday, Aug. 3, to Saturday, Aug. 7, at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center. Standouts such as U.S. Olympic star Natalie Coughlin and 50-yard freestyle NCAA champion Liv Jensen are among the Bears competing in the meet. Nationals will serve as qualifying for U.S. rosters for the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, 2010 Short Course World Championships, 2010 Junior Pan Pacific Championships and 2011 World University Games.
Former 100-yard butterfly NCAA champion Amanda Sims, fellow seniors Erica Dagg and Katie Kastes, junior Colleen Fotsch and 2010 Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year Caitlin Leverenz are some of the other Bears scheduled to compete at nationals. U.S. Olympic gold medalist Dana Vollmer and former Cal teammate Madison Kennedy, key members of the Bears' 2009 NCAA team title, are also slated to swim in Irvine.
The national championships will conduct preliminary races starting at 9 a.m. PT daily, with finals set to start at 6 p.m. PT each day. Universal Sports will broadcast live coverage of the meet on Aug. 3 and 4 beginning at 6 p.m. PT. NBC Sports will air taped highlight shows of the meet at 1 p.m. PT on Aug. 7 and at 1:30 p.m. PT on Aug. 8. Swimnetwork.com will also report on nationals, with race coverage, interviews and more.
