BLOOMINGTON, IND. - The No. 7-ranked Cal men's swimming and diving team competed in six events Thursday at the Hoosierland Open, held at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center in Bloomington, Ind. Top finishes for the Golden Bears were junior Ian Lentz placing third in the 200 IM with a season-best 1:52.44, and Cal's 200 free relay of freshman Alex Cushing (21.51), senior Eric Dunipace (21.23), junior Dash Rothberg (20.83) and freshman Andrew Godbe (21.28) placing third with a time of 1:24.85.
Other top individual finishes for the Bears were Rothberg placing seventh in the 50 free (21.19) and senior Michael Jafari finishing 10th in the 500 free (4:36.30). In the last event of the day for the men's competition, Cal's 400 medley relay team of Dunipace (55.17), sophomore Troy Nissen (57.55), Lentz (49.97 and Cushing (46.53) were sixth with a time of 3:29.22.
In first-day diving, Bear freshman Taylor Dehn was sixth in the three-meter competition (320.60), while junior Sam Helvie was eighth (296.65), freshman Thomas Henninger 10th (292.00) and junior Brian Lawler 11th (285.95).
In the second day of the Hoosierland Open on Friday, Nov. 16, Cal will be participating in the 200 medley relay, the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 800 free relay and one-meter diving events.
