Stockton, Calif. - No. 3 Cal's seven-game win streak was snapped today, when the Golden Bears were defeated by No. 14 Pacific, 2-1. In a tie game in the bottom of the seventh inning, Kelly Anderson gave up a walk-off home run. It was Anderson's only earned run in the game. Cal drops to 23-3, while Pacific is now 16-3.
Pacific got on the board first in the second inning. A leadoff double translated into a run after a California error.
Kaleo Eldredge responded in the fifth to tie the game by herself. Eldredge homered down the right field line, her fourth of the season, to put Cal on the scoreboard.
Then came the drama in the seventh for hard-luck loser Anderson. She scattered seven hits over six innings and struck out four.
The Bears actually out-hit the Tigers, 10 to 7. Cal had multiple runners on base in the second, third, fifth, sixth and seventh but could not come up with a big hit to change the game. Eldredge led the Bears at the plate, going 3-4.
The Bears have only lost to ranked opponents thus far. No. 14 Pacific joined No. 14 Nebraska and No. 12 LSU. Cal heads to the NIST Tournament in Sunnyvale March 12-14 next.
