BERKELEY - The Pacific-10 Conference and Stanford University will host a Pac-10 bay area women's basketball media day on Tuesday, Oct. 28, on Dallmar Court in the Arrillaga Family Sports Center on Stanford's campus. The event will begin with a continental breakfast at 9:30 a.m., with press conferences featuring Stanford and California beginning at approximately 10 a.m. Following the press conference, student-athletes and coaches will be available for one-on-one interviews until approximately 11 a.m.
Representing Cal will be fourth-year head coach Joanne Boyle along with senior center Ashley Walker, senior guard Alexis Gray-Lawson and junior guard Lauren Greif. The Golden Bears head into the new season after a 2007-08 campaign that ended with an overall record of 27-7 and a second-place finish in the Pac-10 at 15-3. California advanced to the championship game of the Pac-10 Tournament before reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Bears return all five starters from a year ago, led by the post tandem of seniors Walker (15.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg) and Devanei Hampton with senior guard Gray-Lawson running things from the point. Cal was selected as the No. 2 team in the nation in the Athlon Sports preseason poll and No. 8 according to Lindy's preseason top-25 poll.
Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer, entering her 23rd season at the helm of the Cardinal, will be joined by redshirt-junior guard Rosalyn Gold-Onwude, junior guard JJ Hones and sophomore forward Kayla Pedersen at the event.
