BERKELEY - The California men's gymnastics team lost their opening meet to the Stanford Cardinal, 425.000-411.150. Junior Kevin Wolting both competed in the all around competition, and finished with scores of 80.100 and 78.250 respectively, good for third and fourth place.

Cal started off strong on the floor, led by Langenstein's score of 15.650. As a team, they earned a 72.650, ousting Stanford's 70.600 on the apparatus. Though they performed well, they left the event with heavy hearts, as freshman Tanner Dowell suffered an apparent knee injury and was forced to miss the rest of the meet.

Moving on to the pommel horse, Cal trotted out five freshmen in it's six man lineup. Leading the way were junior Colt Kucker, who tied for third on the event with a 13.900. Cal finished with a 66.150 on the event.

For their third rotation, the Bears tackled the rings. Senior Steven Lacombe did not disappoint on the apparatus, posting a third place 14.950 after a very fluid routine. The Golden Bears left the apparatus with a score of 68.950.

The Bears headed next to the vault, where all around competitor Kevin Wolting led the way with his third place 14.500. A few falls hurt the overall total, however, and Cal posted a 69.950 on the apparatus.

The Golden Bears next tackled the parallel bars where a few mistakes cost a few more points. Sophomore Jonathan Liu was the leader this time posting a 14.800 to add to the team total of 66.700.

To conclude the meet, the Bears went to the high bar and posted a 66.750. Zemeir was the team leader this time, scoring a 13.800.

Cal next competes on Saturday, January 19th at the Stanford Open at 7:00 p.m.
