Head Coach Lindsay Gottlieb
On seeing Cal's name on the screen
"There is no feeling like it. It's such a nervous anticipation and then you see your name. It's a jubilation unlike any other feeling in sports. The best part for me is watching our kids celebrate because they deserve it. They have worked hard. To know that the work they have put in and to see them so happy, that is the best part of the job."
On landing where some people predicted.
"We thought we could be a seven or an eight, but really, it is about matchups. We are looking forward to the matchup against Iowa. If we are fortunate enough to win that game, we will look ahead to Notre Dame. It's a terrific program. We are just excited to be dancing. South Bend is a great venue to go to and we will get our players ready.
Junior center Talia Caldwell
On whether this was where she thought they would end up
"We thought we were probably a seven or I was hoping six, but eight is good, too. We are excited to be in. We didn't know what seed we were going to be, so to see our name flash up there, it was surprising to finally see it and see that we were an eight seed.
On how excited the team is
"We are all really excited. We are really excited to get there and stay.Iowa is a really good team. We are excited to do our work this week and work really hard in practice and get there and surprise some people. The first time thing is good, because we have nothing to fear. We are just going to go and do our best.
On whether she has the butterflies
"I do. I do. I can't wait to start practicing and then to play.
Junior guard Layshia Clarendon
On going all the way to Indiana to play
"I think we are a good road team. We went all the way to Rutgers and Hawai'i. Of course, everyone wants home court advantage, but I don't think it is [crucial]. I wanted to be in Spokane, it's so close, but I don't think traveling is going to hurt us too much.
On whether the lack of tournament experience will hurt the team
"I don't think it will. I don't think a lot of other teams have juniors who played 30 minutes plus every game since their freshman year and have played as good of a schedule as we have. We had down-to-the wire games with Ohio State and with Texas. We play NCAA games against Stanford. I wouldn't consider us inexperienced."
