Cal-Arizona Post-Game Quotes
Feb. 3, 2011
California head coach Joanne Boyle
Overall statement on the game:
"We're happy to get out of here with a win. I think it was a sloppy game on our part. Up and down, I thinkt they did a really good job of putting the ball in people's hands to win the game. I was happy that we kind of locked down on them in the end and didn't let them get what they wanted. I thought we could have come out cleaner."
On what worked well:
"Our defense was good for most of the game until Davellyn started going off, we struggled there. We had four kids in double figures again so we were able to share the basketball and get a lot of touches. They actually surprised me and came out and played a lot of man and not zone. I was pleased that [our] kids were able to transition into the man offense because we've been practicing against zone all week."
On only three Wildcats scoring in the first half:
"It just worked that way. Typically, those two - Davellyn White and Ify Ibekwe - score the majority of the points for that team. So it's not that I'm happy that they both scored 21, but if no one else gets points, then it's less of a problem. I thought we still could have done a better job. We got into foul trouble early and we put some key people on the bench, and that didn't stretch the lead for us."
On DeNesha Stallworth's double double:
"She did a really good job, especially in the second half when Talia had to sit. This is a team that we usually outrebound, and tonight we only out-rebounded them by one. It was key when Talia was in the bench that DeNesha picked up that role in the rebounding department."
On breaking Arizona's perfect home record:
"It's a huge weekend for us, we know that. We don't look at records and all that. We know that we control our destiny in some ways so we were just trying to approaching these games one at a time. We went on the road last weekend and we know that we couldn't come in here and play lackadaisically. The kids really did a good job just finishing the game."
On Lindsey Sherbert's career-high four steals and overall performance:
"She's doing a really good job. I told the kids tonight in the locker room how much I appreciate how hard she's running on transition and defense. She really buys into the game plan and leaves everything on the floor. Her stat line typically has a lot of numbers in it and it's not just one category. She's just really doing a great job of growing into the role as a starter for us - bringing a lot to the table and feeling a lot more comfortable."
