BERKELEY - Nathan Adrian capped off an amazing Cal career by leading the Golden Bears to a national team title at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., and collecting the CSCAA Swimmer of the Championships award, making the senior swimmer this week's California Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week.
Adrian won two individual championships and three relay crowns - the 50 and 100-yard freestyles, 200 and 400-yard medley relays and 400-yard free relay - and claimed seven All-America honors.He clocked an American and pool-record time of 18.66 in the 50 free and three-peated in the 100 free with a pool-record time of 41.10. This marked his second NCAA title in the 50, as he also captured the 2009 championship. Adrian anchored all three winning relays.
The Bears repeated as the 200-medley relay champs with a pool-record time of 1:23.12 and repeated as the 400-medley champs with a pool-record time of 3:02.28. Adrian also garnered All-America status in the 100 butterfly with an eighth-place finish (46.20) and in the 200-free relay with a second-place finish (1:15.34).
