Legans Leads NCAA in Three-Point Shooting
Dec. 16, 1999
BERKELEY - Three members of the Cal men's basketball team rank among the Top 25 in the nation in three different statistical categories. The statistics are through games of Monday, Dec. 13.
Leading the way is freshman guard Shantay Legans, who ranks first in NCAA Division I in three-point shooting. Through seven games, Legans has made 11-of-17 attempts for 64.7 percent, just edging out Altron Jackson of South Florida (63.2%).
In addition, freshmen center Nick Vander Laan is 16th in the country in field goal shooting, making 64.6 percent of his attempts. If he can maintain that rate, it would be the second best in school history, trailing only Mark McNamara, who shot 70.2 percent from the floor in 1981-82.
Finally, junior forward Sean Lampley is 23rd in the country in rebounding average at 9.9 per game. He also leads the Pac-10 in the category and his 15 rebounds vs. Hofstra are the single-game high in the conference this year.
