BERKELEY, Calif. - Cal head coach Joanne Boyle

Opening statement
"I thought it was a great team win. Any time you can get your whole team in there, it's always a great team win. I was really pleased with our effort from start to finish. The only stat up there that I'm disappointed in is our turnovers. We're a team that's trying to find our way with that in terms of identity. Overall, I was pleased with our effort and output."

On Natasha Vital's Progress
"Thank goodness before Lexi got hurt, she had gotten three or four games where she was playing 15 or 20 minutes. So, it wasn't that she had to start off blind with no playing time. She's getting some great experience and is doing a great job for us. It's hard for a freshman to come in and run a team. Lexi was an exception in that respect. Tasha just needs to learn how to take care of the ball down the stretch. Other than that, she's doing a great job. I think she has been doing a really good job for us defensively. She rarely comes out of the game. For her to have to play that many minutes, she's doing a really good job."

On the keys to the win
"It was our defense. We challenged the kids after the Arizona State game. I felt like we fell apart defensively and with offensive rebounding. That was the key. We told them you will get to run and get transition buckets, but you have to play defense and rebound. I thought we did a good job of that."

On how much stopping Joy Hollingsworth was a focus
"She and (Jessica) Arnold were a focus. Arnold came in here last year and lit us up. She hit three threes early on today. We were going to face guard her or put a taller player on her. We weren't going to let her get hot. We also wanted to let their posts finish one-on-one. I'll take our two post players against a lot of post players. Let it go one-on-one in the post and don't let their guards go off."

On Keanna Levy's performance
"She did a great job. Typically our posts lead us in offense and key us defensively. They sat in a zone, and we had to knock down shots. Kea came out and was on fire. She played defense on everybody. She rebounded the ball well for us. She had a complete game. She took care of the ball and got us started. She got the run started for us."

Senior guard Keanna Levy

On her performance
"The more I'm on the court, the more confident I'm getting. I'm trying to play within my game, and my teammates are finding me. I was hitting open shots."

On defense fueling the team's 16-0 first-half run
"Our defense always fuels our offense. If we play good defense, then we get steals, and then we head down to the other end. That's always a focus in any game, to take care of business on the defensive end, and the offense will always be there. Today, we wanted to come out and regroup from the Arizona State game."

On the guards leading the way today
"Our team is very versatile. Our posts are a very dominant part of our team. When we get the ball into them, teams are double and triple teaming them. So, our posts are doing the best they can to pass out of the double teams. If we can hit shots, then people will play us, and we'll get easier looks."

Freshman guard Natasha Vital

On her performance
"With each game that we play, I'm getting more comfortable with the offense and the college level. My teammates always encourage me every day in practice and in games. I just try to go out and play my game."

On Keanna Levy's performance
"Kea had a great game today. She helped me out a lot. She has been working really hard after some hard times last year and the year before. She's just playing her game this year and showing people what she can do."

On cutting down on turnovers
"I think I just need to slow down a little bit more. Sometimes I'm in a rush and want to do everything fast. "
