Golden Bears Earn Midseason All-America Honors

BERKELEY - With midseason All-America teams being announced by several publications this week, both senior center Alex Mack and junior cornerback Syd'Quan Thompson have received national recognition.

College Football News selected Mack to its first-team All-America unit, noting: "Widely considered to be the nation's best center, he is cone again having a dominant year leading the underappreciated Cal offense." Additionally, Mack was selected as the Sporting News' first-team midseason All-American, describing him as "the game's nastiest and technically sound players."

In addition, Mack, one of 12 semifinalists for the Rotary Lombardi Award given to the country's best interior lineman, has been named a second-team mid-season All-American by

Syd'Quan Thompson

Thompson, who has three interceptions and nine pass breakups this year, has been named to the second-team All-America units by both College Football News and

Phil Steele also chose Mack and Thompson to his first-team midseason All-Pac-10 team, with tailback Jahvid Best, tight end Cameron Morrah, offensive lineman Noris Malele, linebacker Zack Follett and punter Bryan Anger on the second team. Defensive end Cameron Jordan and linebacker Anthony Felder were named to the third team.
