BERKELEY - The 20th-ranked California men's soccer team defeated UC Davis, 2-0, in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon at Edwards Stadium.
The game got off to a good start for the Bears with senior defender Tyson Wahl scoring what later proved to be the game-winning goal in the third minute. Andrew Jacobson lofted a perfect corner kick, which Wahl deposited in the back of the net.
Cal out shot UC Davis 14-5, with senior forward Calen Carr leading the team with five shots, two of which were shots on goal.
Three Cal goalkeepers, senior Erik Kronberg, junior Mike Oseguera and sophomore Justin Myers, combined for the shutout.
The Bears open their regular season Friday, Sept. 2 at 7:30 pm at fifth-ranked UC Santa Barbara in the UCSB adidas Classic.
