SAN JOSE, Calif. -
California Head Coach Joanne Boyle
On the loss to UCLA
"I just would like to give a lot of credit to Kathy (Olivier) and her team. They understand what it is like to play in the Pac-10 Tournament. They came out with the intensity to win the Pac-10 Championship and make an NCAA run."
On game plan vs. UCLA
"Early, they were sagging and played us differently than the last two games. But, they finally got into their normal game, and I think Devanei (Hampton) came to play, and we tried to get her the ball. It was just like our feet were almost stuck in the mud. I knew they feed off points on transition. Some of their points came from forced turnovers, but a lot of them came on unforced turnovers."
On loss to UCLA
"We just did not come to play. It is a big disappointment for us. It is a good learning experience coming into the Pac-10 Tournament for the first time, a big experience to play some of the best guards in the country. We just need to play every game, 40 minutes a game."
On conversation after the game with UCLA's Nikki Blue
"She told me to get the MVP the next three years, except next year, because of Noelle Quinn (laughter). For her to say that, that was just really nice of her."
On facing UCLA
"We always play well together. Our defense just did not show up. We just need to play our game, no one else's. We need to control the tempo."
On come-back hopes in the game
"You always feel like you can come back, because you need to believe in your team. We just did not match their intensity."
