Peers recognized the advancements head coach Cari DuBois has made with the California women's gymnastics program, voting her Golden Bears No. 25 in the GymInfo 2005 Preseason Coaches Poll.
In two seasons as coach, DuBois has guided the Bears to the program's first back-to-back winning seasons since 1991-92 and sent a qualifier to the NCAA Championships for the first time in nine years. Under DuBois, Cal has climbed as high as 18th in the polls (2003) and finished both of her seasons nationally ranked. The Bears have become an emerging threat in an extremely tough Pac-10 Conference, which has all seven participating members ranked.
Cal finished the 2004 season ranked No. 25, finishing with a 9-6 dual meet mark. The Bears placed fifth at the NCAA Regional meet.
Defending national champion UCLA, who Cal will square off against Jan. 23, took the top spot in the poll. This season, the Bears face seven teams ranked in the top 13 in the poll
Cal opens the 2005 season January 14 at Haas Pavilion with a quad-meet involving No. 3 Stanford, UC Davis and Brown.
