WALNUT CREEK - Freshman Andrew Wiedeman has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week from the week of Oct. 2-8, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. It is the first career weekly award for the freshman and the 11th all-time award for the Bears.
Wiedeman recorded six points last weekend in Cal's victories over Washington and Oregon State. Against the Huskies last Friday, Wiedeman notched assists on both goals in the Bears' 2-1 win. Against the Beavers, Wiedeman scored the first two goals in the 3-0 victory.
In addition to the conference recognition, Wiedeman was also selected to Soccer America's Men's Team of the Week and College Soccer News' National Team of the Week.
Wiedeman has been a huge factor in Cal's offensive production. He currently leads the team in points (12), goals (4) and assists (4).
Cal will face San Diego State Friday, Oct. 12, at 4 p.m. at the SDSU Sports Deck and UCLA Sunday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. at Drake Stadium.
