Oct. 25, 2004

Quarterback Andrew Walter of Arizona State, linebacker Wendell Hunter of California and kicker Jared Siegel of Oregon have been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week.

Walter, a senior from Grand Junction, Colo., led the Arizona State offense in the Sun Devil's 48-42 win against UCLA. Walter completed 25-of-51 passes for 415 yards and six touchdowns. Trailing 42-31 with less than seven minutes remaining in the game, Walter directed Arizona State on three scoring drives--two touchdowns and a field goal--in less than four minutes to pull out the win. Walter's six touchdown passes is just one shy of the Pac-10 record for a regulation-length game. The Arizona State offense put up 48 points and 536 yards total offense, 415 through the air.

Hunter, a senior from Carson, Calif., led California's defensive unit in the Golden Bears' 38-0 shutout win at Arizona. Hunter had a team-high 10 tackles, seven solo, including one tackle for loss and broke up a pass. The Cal defense pitched a shutout and limited Arizona to 12 first downs and 245 yards total offense.

Siegel, a senior from Sacramento, Calif., scored 10 of Oregon's points in the Ducks' 16-13 road win at Stanford. Siegel hit on three-of-four field goal attempts, connecting from 21, 37 and a season-long 51 yards (his miss was a 50-yard attempt). He also made his only PAT attempt to account for 10 of the Ducks' points. The three field goals also gave Siegel the Oregon career record for field goals made with 46.

Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were running backs Ryan Cole of Oregon State, LenDale White of USC, Jerome Harrison of Washington State and Terrence Whitehead of Oregon. Also nominated on defense were safety Emmanuel Franklin of Arizona State, linebacker Trent Bray of Oregon State and linemen Frostee Rucker of USC, Robby Valenzuela of Oregon, Manase Hopoi of Washington and Adam Braidwood of Washington State. Punters Sam Paulescu of Oregon State, David Lonie of California and Chris Kluwe of UCLA and kickers Ryan Killeen of USC and Jesse Ainsworth of Arizona State were nominated for special teams play.
