Stanford - Cal women's tennis hit the wall on Sunday at the ITA Omni Hotels Regional Championships on Sunday, eliminating their chances at competing in the Omni Hotels Indoor Championships in Dallas next week.
Raquel Kops-Jones and Catherine Lynch highlighted the Bears' accomplishments in this tournament. The All-American Kops-Jones being ousted in the semifinals, and unseeded Lynch's cinderella run was ended at the quarters.
The fifth-seeded Kops-Jones breezed through her opening rounds, and advanced to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Darika Klaic of Washington. She was eliminated from the tournament by Stanford's ninth-seeded Erin Burdette in the semifinals, ultimately losing by a 3-6, 2-6 mark.
Lynch surprised early, eliminating many seeded opponents, including her own teammate, Christina Fusano. Lynch's remarkable run was ended by another Stanford player, Gabriela Lastra, in a 1-6, 2-6 loss.
On the doubles side of the competition, Kops-Jones and freshman Carla Arguelles were eliminated from competition by the top-seeded duo from Fresno State, Simone Jardim and Kim Niggemeyer. The final score was 3-8.
Cal women's tennis next competes in the Apani Invitational in Tempe, AZ, which concludes their fall season.
