DAVIS, CALIF. - Senior Matt Golden tallied five goals and redshirt freshman Blake Kelly added three goals as No. 3-ranked California defeated Fresno Pacific, 17-1, Sunday (Sept. 25) as part of the Aggie Shootout at UC Davis. The Golden Bears improved to 7-1 season and will next play No. 15-ranked Santa Clara at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Schaal Aquatics Center. Earlier this season Cal defeated the Broncos, 21-3, Sept. 3 in Berkeley.
Golden was impressive for the Bears, scoring a goal in the first period and then added two goals in both in the second and third periods. Kelly also had three goals in the first half as Cal yielded a goal to the Sunbirds in the first quarter before shutting Fresno Pacific out the remainder of the match.

Sophomore Tommy Gilfillan and redshirt freshmen Matt Russell and John Yeager all had a pair of goals for the Bears as well. Junior Mason Cox and sophomore Perry Short led the team with four assists apiece.
"It was great to see a fairly new program in Fresno Pacific," said Cal coach Kirk Everist. "It was a good opportunity to play a lot of people and the guys performed well."
After the Aggie Shootout the Bears will next battle the top teams in the nation the following week, Oct. 1-2, at the SoCal Invitational. Cal opens the SoCal Invite playing Santa Clara at 11:10 a.m. in Los Alamitos on Saturday, Oct. 1.
