STANFORD, Calif. - California women's tennis will be represented by three players on the final day of the 2007 Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional on the courts of the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Stanford, Calif. Senior Cristina Visico (No. 10) defeated both of her Sunday opponents for one spot in the singles draw final. First defeating Fresno State's Tinesta Rowe 6-2, 6-1, Visico continued her strong play, dispatching of Fresno State's Anastasia Petukhova (No. 6) 6-4, 6-2. Visico will meet fourth-seeded junior Jessica Nguyen of Stanford in Monday's final at 12:15 p.m. Whether Visico wins the final match or not, as one of the finalists, she gains entry to the ITA National Indoor Championships along with fellow senior Susie Babos who earned her berth with her All-American Championship title.

The team of junior Claire Ilcinkas and freshman Marina Cossou won the tie-breaker in their quarterfinal match 9-8(5) against Stanford's Lindsay Burdette and Celia Durkin to advance to Monday's doubles semifinal at 11 a.m.

In other singles quarterfinal action, junior Bojana Bobusic upset second-seeded Melanie Gloria of Fresno State in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Gloria is the preseason third-ranked women's singles player in the country. As the last unseeded player standing, Bobusic fell to Stanford's Jessica Nguyen (No. 4) after taking the first set 6-3. Nguyen finished up winning 6-3 and 6-1 for the right to meet Visico in the singles final. As the top-seeded singles entry in the tournament, Babos completed her weekend in the semifinal, falling in an upset to sixth-seeded Anastasia Petukhova of Fresno State 6-4, 6-2. Petukhova was eventually eliminated by Visico in the singles semifinal.

In doubles play, the Golden Bears split decisions on the day with one pair eliminated and the other advancing in the quarterfinal round. Fresno State's fourth-seeded duo of Renata Kucerkova and Anastasia Petukhova defeated Cal's Babos and senior Stephanie Kusano (No. 5) 8-2. As the eighth-seeded doubles team, Cossou and Ilcinkas pulled off the upset of third-seeded Durkin/Burdette and will meet the top-seeded pair of Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe from Fresno State in one doubles semifinal at 11 a.m. on Monday. The winner of that match will play in the doubles final at approximately 12:30 p.m.

There are a total of eight regional qualifying tournaments throughout the country that determine the field of participants for the ITA National Indoor Championships held in Columbus, Ohio from Nov. 1-4. The two singles finalists and the doubles champion emerging from this weekends' play will earn berths into the ITA National Indoor Championships. In addition to host school Stanford and Cal, this regional included top players from the following Northwest region schools: Cal Poly, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Nevada, Oregon, Pacific, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara, UC Davis, Washington and Washington State.
